The Role of Stress in Eating Disorders
Eating desserts and other comfort foods is one way we choose to soothe or distract ourselves from uncomfortable feelings and thoughts.
Varicose Veins Part 2: Treatment Alternatives
If you have varicose or spider veins, your physician usually will try methods that do not involve surgery first to relieve your symptoms. These may include preventive techniques or the use of compression stockings.
Varicose Veins Part 1: More Than Just a Cosmetic Issue
Varicose veins are a very common problem, generally appearing as twisting, bulging rope-like cords on the legs, anywhere from groin to ankle. Spider veins are smaller, flatter, red or purple veins closer to the skin surface.
Medical Myths: Cosmetic Surgery
Cosmetic surgery is a broad field encompassing procedures for men and women from the top of their heads to their ankles. In recent years, popular television shows and innumerable magazine articles have prompted a massive surge in interest in what cosmetic surgery can possibly change.
Medical Spas: A Physician's Perspective
Imagine visiting a facility that allows for medical-grade cosmetic procedures to restore skin health and rejuvenate the face and body, and maximizes health and wellness in a serene spa-like environment. You would be visiting a ''medical spa.''
Exercise for Your Looks
We all want to feel good on the inside and look good on the outside. As you learned in last month's article, exercising can have a big impact on your mood and energy level, but there are some cosmetic effects that can take place as well.
Weight Loss Image
For months you've eaten sensibly and exercised regularly and it's paid off. You hardly recognize yourself: you've reached your goal weight and your body is toned and tight. But, YIKES, you slip into an old pair of slacks or a skirt and it almost falls off your body. Although you love your new look, how do you dress for your new image?
Accentuate the Positive
Body image can play a key role in how you feel about yourself. You’re more likely to feel confident if you are comfortable in your own skin and with the reflection you see in the mirror. Dressing in a way that flatters your body type is one way to do this. Oftentimes if we feel pretty on the outside it affects the way we feel on the inside.
What about Genetics?
It's irrefutable: your body's blueprint is pretty much determined on the day you are born. Although you can change your body composition (the amount of fat versus the amount of muscle you hold on your body) with exercise and diet, your basic bone structure will always remain the same.
Why Plastic Surgery?
What can diet and exercise realistically improve? The answer is quite a lot when done consistently for a lifetime. The benefits to your heart and lungs are life extending, not to mention the stress relief that a good workout provides. Putting healthy fuel in your body, including plenty of good old water, makes all your equipment work better from your skin to the bones and joints.
