How can I eat healthier when I go out to restaurants for lunch? –Alex in Kannapolis, NC

Alex, always start your meal off with a salad. Salads are full of fiber and make you feel full. Just make sure you skip the fatty dressings, and stick with oil and vinegar or a low-cal option. If the restaurant serves unlimited chips or bread, choose to pass or limit yourself to one serving.  Finally, when it comes to ordering your meal, look for notations on the menu that indicate low-cal or healthy choices, and ask for steamed vegetables or a small side salad instead of French fries.  If all else fails and you decide to splurge and order the ribs, ask for a to-go box immediately and take half of it home.
